I wish we had that here

When we were in Japan, we came upon some pretty niffty solutions to everyday problems. Here below are a few of my favorites:

What's the point of recycling if you're doing it wrong? At McDonald's in Japan you are expected to separate plastic from carton. Period. This applies to straws and ketchup pouches too!!

How many times has it happened that you rush into a place trying to stay dry from the rain pouring outside only to have to carry your wet dripping umbrella with you all over the place? Not in Japan. On rainy days, you'll see these little stands at the entrance doors of shops and buildings. All you do is close your umbrella, stick it in the shaft and pull it out. It will now be nicely tucked into a clear plastic bag that will keep it from dripping all over the place!

And at places you're sure to spend more time than just a couple of minutes (museums, schools, restaurants, etc) they'll probably have... umbrella lockers! Basically you walk up to it, pick a number, insert your wet umbrella, turn the key to safely lock it and then go on about your business. How cool is that??

In a place where space is more expensive than gold coming out of a tight parking lot can be a bit of stressful thing. Not in Japan. We saw the "rotating parking" thing several times and never ceased to be amazed. I'm so pissed that I never once thought of taping it with my camera so I'm turning to youtube for this one. This is soooo cool!

Fned.

It's funny those small things we take advantage of in Japan. Those umbrella bags are pretty cool but wasteful. They also have a little contraption that dries your umbrella, which is much more eco-friendly.
The coolest things are the bathrooms! The squatters are nasty but the new western style ones that have the electronic tinkling sound running when you do your business... awesome! you can go to the bathroom with out feeling embarrassed, haha
