London life... grey

Everytime I'm in a new city I always wonder what it would be like to work, live, hang out with friends, go out, ..... etc, in that place.

A few weeks ago we were in London visiting some friends. Along with Paris and Madrid, London has always facinated me as a modern metropolitan city heavily charged with Europe's incredible history.

I've often wondered what it would feel like to walk on my way to work down those pebbly roads where Shakespere and Jack the Ripper probably walked along a few centuries ago....

Or live in one of those Victorian houses with the bay windows and the black iron gates like the Banks family in Mary Poppins.....

Or meet up after work with friends at the nearest pub and share a pint like in that movie Sliding Doors....

Or have such a thing as a Queen's birthday as a national holiday......

.... and then I got a sneak peak of what I'm told the weather is like 70% of the year.

(remember, this is a week or two before summer!)

Uhm.... :s

What would you say if I told you Aberdeen is greyer and colder than London? There they actually get some summer while for us the hottest can be 18C..
Hope you liked the capital of the Perfid Albion.. You should have come all the way to Scotland. I have to plan a trip to Paris soon.
Cheers.

Cool! I have always wanted to go to London too...but just to visit...like you, I think the weather would be a little too grey for me.

Wow, those photos are GREAT...they REALLY make me want to be there. I've only been to London once, but I could really see myself living there.

See, it's been so dang hot and humid and sunny and sweaty for just AGES here, so that pic of you with the long sleeves makes me totally jealous. We always want what we don't have, I guess.

Anilu: Yikes! I used to hate living in Yucatan because I can't stand the heat or the sun. I've always preffered cooler weather to tropical one. Puebla's weather was always perfect for me: cool enough in the mornings and evenings for you to wear a light sweater, warm and sunny at noon and afternoon's for you to enjoy being outside! And yeah... you gotta come to Paris sometime! (weather here is ok I guess ;))

Mamacita: I really was curious to see what it would be like to actually LIVE in London (so many of our friends have or are doing it) but after an entire weekend of walking with your jean legs soaked to your knees and your nose all droopy and red, and your fingernails purple and hearing this is what it's like for 3/4 of the year... I'm not so sure of this. But I still think it's a lovely beautiful incredible city with a very particular vibe. You and Seb would love it!!

Heather in Paradise: Thanks for reminding me of what the weather is like in the Peninsula! I keep seeing all y'all's pics of the Caribe and getting all jelous and stuff... but you've reminded me why I hated living in Valladolid and Mérida (hot, humid weather is NOT for me) and why I was so glad to head up north when I came here! ;)

You guessed it people: I'm not one for extremes. Give me Cuernavaca's "eternal springtime weather" any you'll keep me happy and content. But if I have to choose, I'm more of "let's go to a cabin in the mountains for summer" kind of girl than a "let's head for the beach!" ;)

P.S. I just re-read what I wrote in my previous comment and I realize I must seem so contradictory to guys.

Sorry 'bout that. I have issues. ;)

Brrrr... maybe that's why they drink so much tea!

My sister lived in Seattle and she said they drink so much coffee there because it's always drizzling and how else are you going to stay awake, not because they like the taste!

Mexpat: LOL. Isn't Seattle where Starbucks was born? If so, now we know how they did it!! ;)

I'm jealous - London is my home town, and I've not been back to visit in more than three years. Soon...soon...

The weather isn't an enticement though. There are plenty of places that are colder, sure, but it's the permanent presence of moisture in the air that is the killer. Even when it isn't raining the cold damp air manages to get through any amount of clothing you put on. And in summer is gets stupidly humid on the days when it gets hot.

Hi Gary! I know how it feels to be away from home for such a long time that you start to miss the crummy stuff as well. If you can believe it I've found myself homesick many a time missing the smog of Mexico city! LOL

Thanks for visiting!
