My uncle Jaime scanned and emailed some really cool pics of those old Tulum trips with all the Amat's ... it feels like it was ages ago 'cause Carmen was only 2 or 3 (look how cute she looks on my dad's shoulders) ....... funny enough, I still remember those trips quite clearly ....
They were always so much fun. The day after school let out our parents would haul us up into a packed van (or two) and we'd all drive down to Yucatan. At the time of these pics Uncle Jaime and Marcela still lived in Mexico City so we would drive to the Sureste in a sort of gypsy caravan..... There would be our vans, then Jaime's truck followed by his lancha (boat) which would provide for great fun on the beach !
Once we arrived to the Tulum camping sight of our choice ("El Mirador" or "Don Armando") we'd set up camp. As soon as we kids had helped getting all the estacas for the tents steadily into the sand we quickly changed into our bathing suits (and inevitable tee-shirts for the sun) and shot straight toward the crystaline caribbean beach while the viejos would push up the "pop tops", put up the toldo, bring out the folding chairs and set up the "hora de la botana"....
Even though technically we were on vacations, those weeks on the beach always turned out to be quite full... breakfast consisted of huevos a la mexicana con frijoles (and washing the dishes in the pozo afterwards), then mornings and afternoons were full of either Windsurfing or scooba diving or sand-castle building or beach exploring... lunch and diner were usually timely classics like mac'n'cheese or ceviche de atun followed by the boring 2 hour waiting period before we could go back into the water.... mid evening the chips and soft drinks would come out for us kids, the guitar and the pomo for the adults... and then there were those night expeditions with a flashlight and the cubeta to go and catch as many crabs as we could.... bring them to the camp and admire them with our parents before releasing them back into the sea.....

Thank you Helene for your kind comments... and I'm so touched that you choose to post in english! :D
That is very much a blast from the past and as a member of the Outon Family that for many years had the honor of being a part of the Amat's Caravan trips to the Southeast Coasts, I can say that those were the days!!!! I remember sharing the pop-top bed with Antonio as we would tell horror stories in bed and plan how to get back at Luis and Pablo for bulling us during the day, ha, ha. I can remember Yussiff playing the guitar as we all gathered around a fire and sang some Serrat's songs. I remember Carlos surfing while Mindy would scrub the pots with sand (she said it was the best to get the grease off of them)...So many memories... and yes I very much agree with you, those trips shouldn't stop for us and for the generations to come ;)
PS. I miss you all!
Oh Xi! I'm so glad you remember those trips... I sometimes feel that with the changing times come the forgetting minds... We sure did have fun and hopefully one day we can meet up "en el Caribe" like the viejos used to....
xoxoxo,
Fned.
P.S. I MISS YOU TOO!!!
