Ok, so tonight is the Rugby World Cup kick off game and France is playing against Argentina...
Now usually I'm not in the least bit interested in Rugby, I don't even know the rules and all it looks like to me is a bunch of oversized Neanderthals grunting and punching each other when they're not huddling together in a sort of "group hug".... I mean, what is it with Rugby? At times it's like football so you kick, at times it's like baseball so you throw, at times it's like basketball so you dribble, at time it's like sumo fighting so you grunt and huff and at times it's even like ballet so you lift, twirl and carry.... !!! Sounds to me like the inventor of Rugby was probably always picked last as a kid during the sorting of the local football team....
BUT........... it turns out France is hosting the World Cup this year and from what I hear the French are hopping THIS cup will erase last year's FOOTBAL World Cup fiasco (loosing against the Italians after Zidane's infamous coup de tête) AND will bring back a bit of that Champions du Monde ecstasy they had back in '98 when they actually did win the Soccer World Cup...
So I resigned myself, bought the "Rugby for Dummies" and tonight we're all going out to watch the opening game against Argentina.... I am hopping to be able to see past the kicking and the throwing and the grunting and the lifting and maybe finally understand what makes this game even slightly interesting...
Besides, as any self-respecting Mexican will tell you, you never pass up a chance to "booooooo" the Argentineans, no matter the sport! ;-)
Allez les bleus!
