Independance day? Yeah, right!

When did this happen?

When did I become this..... this.... this adult?!

Hubby and I had tickets to go to a Mexican party tonight in the south of the city. It has been 6 years since I last gave out El Grito and I was totally planning on belting out the loudest "Viva México Cabrones!" on this side of the Atlantic.

I still remember those 15 de Septiembre parties back home... they were totally wild. There was that time I went out to a Rancho near Cuernavaca with friends and at midnight we all took turns firing gunshots into the air to the tone of the "Viva México" cries coming from the town's city centre (ooopss! Sorry mom, you didn't have to know about that!)... or the times my friends and I would go down to El Zocalo and party all night at the open air concerts that would be sponsored by the city authorities... all those delicious antojitos and tequila shots and micheladas and .... and.... and...

I was really looking forward to this party.

And then I got stuck in the office. And by stuck I mean in and out of meetings until 6pm when I was finally able to sit down in front of my screen and begin the day's load of work! By 9pm I was still typing out emails, going over Powerpoint slides and double checking Excel spreadsheets. I finally bit my lip and called hubby to let him know I was calling the El Grito off. Didn't have much energy left in me to even whisper a little "Andale, andale".

So what do I get for my mature and responsible attitude? I get a good look at the bare arse of a half drunk homeless guy rolling on the ground at the entrance of my subway station on my way home.

Life is just dandy sometimes.

P.S. Viva México.

Que triste!

Well, Chile's big celebration (not independence, but sort of celebrated as if it were) is the 18th. So I will shout a Viva Chile! and a Viva Mexico! for you while I'm at it :)

LOL about the drunk guy.

Aw, that bites that you weren't able to celebrate. I will be missing out as well since I happen to be leaving Chile on the day of the celebrations... phooey.

It's the shits growing up and being responsible. I'm going to miss it too because I'm still sick. I had wanted to be at the Grito in Mérida because I've gone in many other towns and cities in México but not yet in my new home town. Next year.

¡Viva México!

Mamacita: Thanks!! I'll be shouting a good ol' Viva Chile on Thursday too! And congrats again on your pics. I'm so excited for you!!! :D

Kumichan: When is the Ecuadorian Independence day? If I can yell out a a Viva Chile I can certainly yell out a Viva Ecuador too! ;) And yeah, that drunk dude was definitely funny!

Jonna: Oh, I do hope Mimi and you are feeling better by now. Don't worry.. the Grito will still be there next year and you'll even be able to head on over to your amazing place afterwards for tequila by the pool!! How COOL is that?!?

Bluestreak: Careful chica... your fellow Spanish mates might not take it too well you yelling out "Viva México"... after all, the Mexican Independence was the beginning of the end of the Spanish Empire in Latin America.. but who's keeping score? (he-he-he....) ;)

Anon: hehehehe!! Adoptado! Ahora solo hay que convencer a Marin de dar el "nuevo" Grito desde el balcon del Ayuntamiento.... ;)

Mexpat: Aw! I miss the fireworks... glad you enjoyed your (first?) Grito!!

Pobrecita! Sorry you had to work so late on such a crucial night, and then get bombarded by such an unwanted sight on your way home! Sounded interesting - Noche Mexicana en París! Naturally I didn't go out to hear the shout...(and after hearing about some of the occasions you described when you went out on the 15th while living at home, I guess it's clear why we always tried to talk you out of it too!) but did get an excellent view of some amazing fireworks from our LR window... and today we ate pozole! Great puente, but tomorrow, back to work. Hope I don't run into any independence day drunks sleeping it off on the street as I pass by in the early a.m. tomorrow... the partying around here went on all today too!
