The ladies' list

A few days ago I did a post on some of the French male singers I like to listen to. As promised, here's a little selection of some of the French female singers invading my iPod lately.

First and foremost, the First Lady of France, Mme Carla Bruni-Sarkozy herself. I haven't listened to her new album yet (which I hear is quite good) but here's a song I love from one of her previous ones (back when she was still just Carla Bruni)

Carla Bruni - Quelqu'un m'a dit

P.S. If you want the spanish translation to the words to this song, you can check out a really good cover here.

Then there is the incredible Vanessa Paradis. This woman is impressive. Not only is she a wonderful singer, composer, performer AND talented actress... she's also kept Mr Johnny "Yum" Depp off the market for 10 years and still counting! Dang!

Vanessa Paradis - Chet Baker

This girl you've probably not heard of. Her name is Shym and she's a very talented RnB singer. I like her music, voice and especially her message. Her songs usually carry positive lyrics towards the younger generation (too bad her videos aren't that great)

Shym - Victoire

I can't leave out Diams. I know a lot of you don't like rap music, personally I can take only a little at a time and from a very select group of rappers. Like Diams. This girl is to France what Missy Elliot is to America, except she's angrier. Still, her songs usually have lyrics that are more interesting to listen to than the typical "Bling-Bling" stuff you hear nowadays. The story to this song is pretty basic though: Girlfriend 1 tells Girlfriend 2 that Boyfriend 1 is cheating on her. They go check, they confirm, they leave.... but is he the only cheating Boyfriend?.... (P.S. Diams is the one with the short hair)

Diams (featuring Vitaa) - Confessions Nocturnes

Then there is Jenifer. She was the very first winner of Star Academy (the French equivalent of American Idol). I confess I don't listen to her that much actually, I only a have a couple of her songs on my iPod but I do enjoy this song whenever it plays.

Jenifer - Tourner la page

By now a few of you that have been in France for a while (wink at Samantha) are thinking "that Fned only listens to french pop trash, where's Zazie?"... Yeah, I know there's a lot of more talented, interesting french singers out there... I just haven't heard of them yet.

Well, at least you're not going like hubby, saying: "stop playing that crap and put on some Pink Floyd instead".

=)
Fned.
