I'm SOOOOO excited!!!
The Star Academy is back on again!!! Yeah, okay, who are you to judge? I bet you got your own closet skeletons too! :p
Anyway, just got finished getting a first look at the contestants and I have to say that this year's batch looks highly promising. Yes, there are also a few that you just couldn't help cringing while they massacred their song and can't wait till they're voted off the program but that's what makes it all the more fun to watch.
But hands down, the reason I love this show is that there is always a "love at first sight" instant with a french song I've never heard before.
Tonight, I got lucky and not one, but two songs caught my attention : first there was Serge Gainsbourg's "Le poinçennoir des Lillas"... loved, loved, loved it (and Quentin's interpretation was quite excellent too!!).... and then there was Cali's "Je m'en vais".... I've already heard other songs from Cali and he's quite good so I totally recommend listening to his stuff if you get a chance.
Which brings me to an idea I've been having over the last couple of weeks.
Thanks to Julie Dufresne and Jeff who sent me a few of their favorite french speaking singers/music and to Mexpat for posting her Top 5 favorite Spanish speaking music, I got to thinking... what if we could listen to other blogger's favorite songs when you came over to their blogs? ... Thanks to Jonnifer I finally found a webtool (Deezer) that allows me to post a song on my sidebar that wont automatically play when you come over to Fned's Blog *wink at Kumichan*. So I intend to upload a new song every day depending on my mood or what I feel like listening to and this way my readers can get a taste of what's rocking my boat on on any given day.
If other bloggers feel like doing this too let me know! You don't have to do it on a daily basis (unless you fee like it) but I for one am ALWAYS up to listening to new stuff and since the blogger community is quite an interesting mix of people from all parts of the world living in all parts of the world, I bet the music we would be getting would be incredibly interesting!!
Anyway, with this, I leave you with the excellentisime Serge Gainsbourg and his "Poinçonneur des Lillas" courtesy of Youtube, and Cali's "Je m'en vais" as the Song of the day.
Cheers,
Fned.

Ohh, yet another reason to like you! A grown woman who shares my secret StarAc obsession is a woman after my own heart, lol.
I was just explaining to a friend that StarAc is pretty much the reason why I know so much about French music - they play old songs, famous songs, invite new artists, etc. It's a great way to be exposed to French music.
Not to mention how good it was for my slang vocab when I was first learning French!
I admit it...I watch Big Brother.
(But the confession is for your ears only....no telling everyone, ok! :) )
Woo hoo, I love your song recs! Such a good mix. I will try to do a weekly song post, that sounds fun.
I haven't ever seen StarAc but it sounds like a great way to hear some good French tunes.
Ksam: hahaha Welcome to the Star Ac Expat fan club! I'll take the Star Academy over the Alliance Française any day!! For me too, it played a great part in my french education (both in language and in culture). That is how I came to hear of other french music icons like Starmania, Sardou, Dalida, Marc Lavoine... I LUV THAT SHOW! ;)
Gary: Don't worry I wont tell anyone, although I DO know of another Big Brother fan out there...
Jonnifer: Oh you definitely have to check out the Star Ac! It's like a French insitution!! ;) Can't wait to hear your song selection too... :)
