Arrived safely in San Antonio this evening and even though it's 1:30am I'm still on Paris time so since back home it's right around the time I get up in the morning and blog a bit before going to work.... why change?
Man it's good to be back in Texas!....
For starters, the weather.... when I left Paris (over 28 hours ago) it was -1C..... so cold that just walking from our building to where the taxi was waiting for me had me all shaking and brrrrrrr-ing!! I remember when I lived in Puebla and each year we'd come up to San Antonio for the holidays how much it hit us how cold it got here.....I guessed compared to Puebla's weather Texas does get cold during the winter.... but now that I know what it's like to live in below zero temperatures, 11 C (which is what the weather forecast announces for SA) sounds warm and sunny to me!!!
Then you have all the old memories that come rushing back.... Some are pretty dumb like how to use a pay phone (I spent 20 minutes and tried every single phone booth at the airport until I finally remembered that here FIRST you dial THEN you insert the coins!!!) or getting used to the qwerty keyboard again (Canucka, if I took your typing test right now I'd probably get a score of 15 wpm!).... but there are also the old fun memories that suddenly start popping all over the place: the walking route I'd take to Pizza Hut where I used to work to save money to go back to Europe, or the names of streets that I used to know so well and had disappeared from my mind.... my grandparents' house with the front (almond?) tree and the orange hidda-bed my parents would stay on when we came to visit......all these memories that take you back in time and suddenly remind you of random things (Shakira on my disc player while walking to work, white sweatshirts with dolphins (or was it whales?) on them for all the cousins, chocolate-oatmeal-peanut-butter drop cookies, Law & Order marathons, etc....)
Can't wait to see everyone, I bet a whole new wave of memories will come swooshing down again!!
Fned.
