Fil'ems

If you're anything like my family then you love watching movies (or fil'ems like my Irish friend Lisa calls them).

I can watch any movie any time any where. And when I'm at my mom's or my grandmother's place we can easily have a film marathon (watch two or even three movies in a row) with no problem. My mom owns over 500 movies on DVD or VHS and I don't even know how many my grandmother has.... so we easily get carried away.....

Like tonight... it is almost 1:30am and we've just finished watching two movies even though we have to get up at 4:30am tomorrow to drive down to Puebla. But we just can't help it.... it's in our blood......

It starts in the dinning room.... first we get talking about movies....

- "Did you see that movie with the girl that won the Oscar for The Aviator.... can't remember her name....."
- "Cate Blanchet?"
- "Yeah! Cate Blanchet.... any way... she's in this new movie about Bob Dylan... see that yet?"
- "I loved Cate Blanchet in Babel"....
- "and Diaries of a Scandal"..... that was her wasn't it?"
- "ohhhhhh... that was a gooooooood movie"....
- "haven't seen that one yet.... but everyone that's seen it says it's pretty weird"
- "it is but you have to see it... Judi Dench is fantastic in it"
- "I didn't know that was Judi Dench that played the part of the weird one, I thought it was the same one that did The Queen".....
- "no, that's Helen Mirren.... wasn't she great in The Queen?".... I thought she did such a real Queen Elizabeth"....
- "This reminds me, has anyone seen Waitress?"
- "No, which one is that?"
- "The one with the girl from Felicity in it, what's her name?"
- "Katie Holmes?"
- "No, that's the one from Dawson's river...
- "Creek"
- "Dawson´s creek.... Keri Russel is the one from Felicity"
- "Oh I have a great movie with Keri Russel.... The Magic of Ordinary Days... any one want to watch it?"....

Then we move into the living room and confiscate the TV

-"Ed, can you go into the den to watch the Spurs game? We're gonna watch a movie here"...

Once the movie is all set to go, and we're all settled around the TV set either lying on the couch or curled up with a warm afghan on one of the chairs.... we hit the Play button and we're off.....

( *** )

Two hours later.....

-"That was such a great movie"....
- "I can't believe the sister would actually ask the girl to leave her husband and come to Denver to have the baby"....
- "Hey, a great movie about sisters is In her Shoes, seen that?"
- "I have it on DVD.... wanna watch it?"
- "We really shouldn't, we have to get up at 4:30 tomorrow...... but, let's put it in and we can always turn it off when it gets late...."

Yeah right!

Mexico Way. Names are hard for me too! It's even worse when it comes to REAL people you meet! I'm always putting the wrong name to the wrong face... and yeah... taking so many pictures I'll probably bore hubby to death when I get back! LOL

Mimi: Ohhh good! Mom told me the story of "Notes of a Scandal" on the ride down to Puebla to keep us awake on the last leg of the trip (see? When we can't actually see the movies we just tell them! LOL). Can't wait to see it!

Andre: With a very large quantity of coffee, Chips verdes and Red Bull!! (Si! Si! Même ma mère en a bu du Red Bull! ;-))

Cancun Canuck: you're talking to probably the only 28 year old with no kids and a collection of over 70 Disney DVDs... Cartoons rock! -- So far it's been molotes de la Prolongación Reforma... but tacos are next on my list! LOL

oh how I love those Fil'ems... and it's true, talking about them is almost as good as seeing them! I just wish that some of them could be as good as their original book form. Seeing so many movies discourages us from reading and it's a bit eerie to discover that what you thought was a pretty mediocre movie was actually a wonderful book!! Luckily, if the movie left something to be desired, you can always still read the book! But if you've already read the book, beware when the movie comes out - you'll probably be disappointed. There are exceptions of course...
