Poker night …. at Octo

Yesterday was André’s company’s, (OCTO Tehcnology), Annual Plenary Meeting. Basically the whole company gets together to discuss strategy, objectives, goals, etc during a whole day and at the end of the evening, they all head out to the President’s house and have a huge barbeque in the back yard…. wife and kids are invited to this last part …

Since he started working at Octo, André had never been able to attend this event for one reason or another but this year we decided not to miss it.

It was pretty fun meeting most of André’s colleagues and friends (with their wife and kids) from work as well as his boss (who’s not much older than André). We had a great night with all sorts of grilled meat (salmon, chicken, beef, pork, sausages), salads, drinks etc.

At one point someone pulled out the foosball table from the “game” room and started a tournament. Just as we were debating over signing up or not, André’s boss (Ludo) suggested we play a game of poker instead…. All of a sudden foosball seemed far too boring after all...

We set up camp in the parlor, opened all the windows of the room to let the fresh night air in, refilled our glasses with champagne, dealt the cards and we were off! There were 6 of us in total and we played the night away. It was really fun playing with people different than our friends which we regularly play with. Suddenly you realize that you have to come up with new strategies and figure out a whole new different category of bluffing than that which you are use to.

I’m happy to say that André and I didn’t do so bad! For a couple of people who only learned how to play poker a few months ago, we did pretty well and stayed in the game long past others who I’m sure play more often than we do. Even Ludo ran out of chips before us and had to give up his place to a new player (we kept the game going and once someone was out another would take his place with a brand new set of chips).

It was a fun night and when André finally ran out of chips (a little while after I had also dropped out) we called it a night and went home.

So… I hope everyone in Puebla is up to learning how to play poker because we’re bringing a set !!!
