Twilight Zone moment

Remember back in October when this illusionist read my mind (sort of)?

Well, in case you don't, here's a little recap:

Basically he'd asked the people in the audience to write a question on a slip of paper. I wrote (in English) the question: "will the answer be YES?". Then he randomly called out 4 people on stage, me included, and proceeded to "answer our questions" without ever looking at our slips of paper. When it was my turn:

... he took my hand and looked at me and went "hmmmmm.....your case is a particular one. I bet you are translating the word "zut" in your heard right now, right?" ("zut" means "uh-oh" in french btw). He looked at me a little longer and said "your question is not a simple yes or no answer, is it? it has something to do with you and another person, right?". I nodded and internally thought "this guy's a fraud, that's way too easy".... he then surprised me by saying "This is not professional, I'll have to get back to you a little later" and led me back to my seat...............

Now, if you remember correctly, I wasn't sure at the time if I believed or not that he'd read my mind because:

> I found it weird that he said I was translating the word "zut" in my my mind.
> My question did have to do with hubby's and my careers......
> Sitting in the audience was one of my bosses. Did he (the illusionist) sense this and thought it was perhaps not a good idea (read: professional?) to "answer my question" in front of my boss?
> Yet, I had written my question as ambiguously as possible precisely because my boss was in the audience but then again, is that why he (the illusionist) had said my question was not "a simple yes or no" matter? .....

Anyway, fast forward to today when I got a call from one of the girls that was with us that night. She told me she'd just come back from having lunch with Roberto (the illusionist) and he'd given her a message for me (!) but not before making her swear to him that she wasn't my boss (!!).

The words he asked her to report back to me where these:

"Yes, life is getting monotonous and yes, I am starting to feel restless in my current situation. He knows that I am thinking about a change but that I haven't taken that step yet because someone is preventing me from doing it. His advice to me is to be patient, the right moment will come".

She asked me if this had anything to do with the question I'd written on my slip of paper that night and I had to admit that, in fact, it had indeed very much to do with my question (I didn't want to give away too much though since after all, this is related to my professional career which I didn't feel it was appropriate discussing with this girl)!

She then told me another strange thing Roberto mentioned about me. He specifically asked her if I was bi-cultural and when she said yes, he went on to say (more like affirm according to her) that then so was my husband.

As much as she and I racked our brains going through that night's events we both came to the same conclusion: I never once opened my mouth in Roberto's presence so there is simply no way he heard my accent. But then how the heck could he have figured out I was a foreigner, let alone, a bi-cultural one? And even more so about Hubby being bi-cultural too?

I have two theories:

- Either he is one bad ass illusionist, or

- He's been reading Fned's Blog.

What do you think?

O.M.G.! This is getting so interesting!!! Who is this guy??
But one thing is true - you wrote your question in English! So he got a clue there. Also, I don't know if this happens to the French, but I can sometimes look at someone here and know they are not Mexican, even without talking to them... and not because of physical attributes, so much as by something about how the person walks, looks at things, reacts to things... so maybe he got a sense of that coming from you - that you weren't totally French in some of those ways. However, knowing that your husband too is bicultural was rather impressive!!!
I'm just in awe at how the whole thing has evolved until now, and am extremely curious to know what happens next!!

I vote bad ass illusionist. If you figure out the "illusion" it's no fun anymore!

But it probably does just have to do with keen observation skills, which is pretty impressive anyway. The knowing the question thing is just freaky though!!

I think this is kind of spooky.. in a very cool sort of way!! I really don't believe in "mind readers" I think they do pay attention and yes yes.. maybe the guy is extra sensitive or I don't know.. you should go and have a cup of coffee with him or something (well you and hubby :P) now, that would be neat, to "know" more... and hey, he remembered about you... wow!
yup, I agree, this is getting interesting!!!!

Whatever it is, that guy is good at what he does!

There's a show here in the US called Psyche. It is a hilarious comedy where the lead actor pretends to be a psychic but happens to have highly developed observation skills.

I don't know how he did it, perhaps reading your blog, but that would assume that he knows you have a blog... :-)

And perhaps as Jonnifer says, he's just good at what he does.

Can you get a lottery number out of him ;-)...The El Gordo in Spain should be coming up...jejeje

He probably "googled" your name and led him here in your blog.

But one thing is for sure, he really did do his assignment overnight **teehee.

Holy crow Fned I'm finally catching up on your blog. This blog was of particular interest to me because of the whole 6th sense nature of it all.

If you want my opinion he's not an illusionist at all.

He seems pretty psychic to me.

Weird stuff has happened to my mom where people have gone up and given her a random reading about stuff and then quietly left the store. Weird shit. I say take his advice. Part of being extremely perceptive and intuitive as he seems to be means that you also sort of knew the answer deep inside you anyways. Was this what you were going to do? Be patient and wait for the right timing?

Minshap: I also think my written question in English clued him in, if even a little. However, I'm not sure about the "what happens next"part. The girl that told me about this gave me his email and said I should email him back saying "I got the message"... but, well... I'm still debating over whether to do so or not. :s

Andromeda: I agree that he MUST have some kind of extra sensorial thing going on, no way he could have figured out some of the stuff he did during his show if he didn't. I'm just not sure how I feel about it. It's pretty scary to think that someone can just "tap into your mind", don't you think???

Ale: I love how you said "well, you and hubby"... tee-hee!! I'm still debating over whether I should "contact" him back... it's pretty freakish, I agree!!!

Jonnifer: I totally agree. That's what's so scary!!!

ResidentExpat... now I don't know which is scarier: that he might be a very good mind reader or that he's reading Fned's Blog!!! GULP!!!

Arlet Grace: Actually, I'm happy to report that by googling my name you don't get to Fned's Blog (believe me, I test this very often in case my company ever does this!). However, by googling my name you DO get to my Facebook page, which I'm not sure is a better thing but which at least doesn't mention my blog. :s

My Way: No problem girl! I'm actually catching up too (read my recent post).

I agree that his advice is probably the best advice for us now and I'm pretty sure he knew this when he "sent his message to me". What scares me is a) why did he remember me in the first place (it's been over 2 months since I attended his show and "asked my question").... b) why does he care? .... and c) HOW did he know???? ;s

OH FNED, you've expressed EXACTLY my feelings on why it's getting interesting - that he remembered you after the fact enough to know that the girl he was having lunch with worked with you!!! And why he cares and how he knows!! Because it seems to me that if he's for real, then of course he would remember you just by having contact with someone who works with you, and that maybe he can't help but care - sort of like the need to tie up loose ends (cabos sueltos). If we assume that he IS for real, then the idea of sending an e-mail is really WEIGHTY!!! Because once a clairvoyant knows your e-mail address, ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN!!! Maybe you should contact him by another means (or at least open a new e-mail account with as few properties as possible and send it from there!). Or just heed his own words and "be patient. the right moment will come"!!!
