Day 28 – My Break

Ok, not only from blogging but from life itself.

I had to take a break you guys. Sorry, Misschris for not being able to stick to the 30 days at a regular 1post&pic p/day rhythm. After spending 10 hours in front of a computer at work, lately I’d been coming home with the feeling that if I turned on my computer one more time my eyeballs were going to explode.

So as I said, I had to take a break.

First off… a break from Paris.

Hubby and I decided to go on a spur of the moment getaway trip to Strasbourg last weekend. I’d never been to that particular region of France, the Alsace, and was really looking forward to it. And I’m glad we did too. Strasbourg is such a cute quaint little city I loved it. Of course, we didn’t get to see all of it being as we were there only a couple of days but it just seemed like a really neat place. In the picture above you can see the typical style of houses of the Alsace region (not a single haussmanian building in sight, just what the doctor ordered) This particular architecture is called “Colombages” (half-timbered houses ->thanks Hélène!) and most of the houses in the city center are built this way. We took a boat ride on the Ill river (on one of those huge touristy boats, sadly not in one of those cute little canoos like the one you see in the picture above) and got to see the European Parliament and Council. We walked through the “vielle ville” (old city) and took the train to nearby Colmar town. But best of all, we ate tons of delicious Alsace dishes like choucroute and flammekueche… and POUNDS of munster cheese!!! We tasted some spicy/dry wine from Alsace and ate some of their famous cakes and pastries. You could say it was more of a gastronomical trip than a cultural one actually.

Then came a break from Work.

That’s the thing of vacations. Usually, when you take vacations to travel somewhere you come back feeling more tired and beat up than when you left (at least if you take the kind of vacations we take where we spend the entire time just walking and visiting new places). So I decided I would take a week off from work… to do nothing and just…. hang. Hang at the apartment. Hang at the gym. Hang out in Paris. Just hang out and chillax (thanks Cancun Canuck for that one!). So that’s what I’m doing right now. Not bad, huh? Hey don’t hate me. The weather in this city is so crappy that I’ve barely set foot outside so far.

And then there was the break from Blogging.

First off let me say that I love blogging and I love reading other people’s blogs and reading people commenting on my blog and answering comments left by people on my blog and commenting on comments left by other people on other blogs… you get it. I love it. But, lately my brain had begun to feel like mush. I try to keep up with all that’s going on in everyone else’s lives and read all these funny entry posts and comments and try to come up with my own share of funny comments and posts and replies and at the same time think of what I want to say on my own blog and how to make it interesting and worth reading …. for a moment it became a little… ming boogling (or bloggling?) And so I pulled an ostrich and sank my head in the sand. Or actually in Enemy’s territory: Facebook. That’s right. I decided to give it a try. I opened an account, searched out friends and family, accepted invitations from friends and family, uploaded a few quirky applications to my page (“Countries I’ve traveled to” or a “quiz of what is the city I should live in”, which incidentally turned out to be…. tah, dah: Paris *duh!* )… Anyway… I’m not 100% convinced I’m going to keep it up (I much rather blog) but it was nice to “get away from it all” a bit.

You guys understand right? No hard feelings?

Fned.

You cheated on us with *sob* Facebook?! Next thing you'll be telling us you've opened a myspace account!

Kidding, I'm so glad you got a break and hope you are feeling refreshed...you were sure missed!

No hay pedo chica, we love you whenever you show up even though we know you've been off boinking facebook!

Me, I just wander off regularly with nothing but a silly grin and a weak apology when I come back. It's expected, right?

No hard feelings at all chica, you need a break sometimes and come back feeling all fresh and sparkly new! I'm jealous of your trip to Alsace, I've got a weakness for a nice Alsatian (sp?) Riesling, dry as a bone and citrussy yummy goodness!

And hey, put me on your Facebook amiga, we'll play Scrabble! (Search my nick name plus hotmail and ye shall find me)

Since I've decided to take an indefinite break from actual blogging I completely understand. Your pick from Strasbourg reminded me of Annecy, where I went last year around this time, actually.

Saludos.

Heather: *blushing* yeah... I confess! I did it!! But it didn't mean anything, really it didn't!!! And now I'm BACK!!! :D

Jonna: ahahaha!!! Ah thanks! *wearing silly grin*

CancunCanuck: Alsatian wine (not sure of spelling either, but lets just assume we're right) rocks!! There is nothing better than a chilled glass of Riesling!!

Manolo: Hey there! True! Long time no see.... I've never been to Annecy or Grenoble... Something I HAVE to do one of these days... perhaps a new "spur of the moment" gettaway destination??? :)

Ale: Oh, don't worry about that one! I barely get the way Facebook works... MySpace is way out of my league!!! Pffff!!! It's hard to accept that I'm too "old" for all this stuff. ;))

Hey there - great to see you posting again - and what a comeback! Love the account and pic of Strasbourg and all the info. As for facebook, send me an invite! I already applied once (wanted to be a friend to Ru there), but didn't go through w/the application cause they asked for a lot of personal info I wasn't willing to give... but send me an invite and I'll try again, just to take your quizzes. Maybe they've made it easier.

Minshap: Cool! Just sent you an invite... I have to warn you though, facebook is not the most intuitive tool there is... I still get dizzy with all the stuff that comes up when I open my homepage... but I have put up our pics from Japan (it's so much easier then uploading them to Blogger)...

Hélène: Thank you very much for that correction. Hubby also added that it's ColmAr (and not colmer). Both rectifications have been done!! ;)

Aunt S: Ah thanks! I also missed blogging with y'all!

Add me on Facebook: Kyle Hepp. I'm a fanatic :)

And yes, we do understand. Blogging is EXHAUSTING. I try so hard to keep up with comments and reading, but when I log into my google reader and see a couple thousand unread blogs waiting for me, sometimes I feel like being a blog friend is a full time job!

By the way, my sister in law is moving to Paris next month. She's Chilean and might love having someone to speak Spanish with while she's there...hint hint hint. Haha, no, but only if you are into that sort of expat meeting up thing, send me an email. No obligation whatsoever. She and my husband don't even get along great so if you don't want to meet her, just don't email me and she'll never even know you exist :)
