I know I should care…

…. but I simply don’t. Really. I’m not in the least bit interested in the current state of elections going on (be it in France or in the US) even if it is THE topic of all conversations right now.

And it’s funny because usually I’m a very virulent politics critic… I can’t help it coming from the family I come from. I love to talk politics and get all self-righteous and critical and boastful and even violent when it comes to defending a point of view. Hubby says I love arguing just for the sake of arguing but to me it's more about getting people to question themselves or simply because it’s interesting to watch how people react when you counter-attack their well-thought-out practiced-on-less-resistant-listeners arguments… (LOL)

And the fact that I live in a country different than my own (two) homeland(s) adds additional stamina when pointing out all that is wrong with this world [compared to] or [as opposed to]…..

(and just in case you’re wondering, no, I’m not that person that ruins a party by exasperating everybody to death ranting on and on about politics, let me reassure you…. I'm actually quite good at knowing when it’s a good time to run your mouth and when it’s a good time to shut up)

So anyway, you get the picture… I’m a stubborn big-mouth…..... except that lately……….. well……….. the heart just hasn’t been in it.

I’ve tried following the municipal elections going on here and French politics in general because after all, it’s the place I’m stuck in for the time being and I consider it only logical to know what’s going on in the world around you. But I simply don’t find it as interesting as the rest of the french seem to think.

I’ve tried following the presidential race going on in the States right now because after all, hello, who isn’t? And yet, it hasn’t even sparked my curiosity enough for me to make up my mind between Clinton and Obama…it’s like…. yeah… right… whatever, whoever gets it….. yoohoo! (rolling eyes)

I’ve tried following politics in Mexico but that only depresses me so I stopped after the 2006 elections.

I’ve even tried following politics in Europe and in Latin America and ok, there has been peaks of interest at times (Poutine pretending to hand over power, the world waking up to learn Kosovo is an independent country, Rajoy bitting the dust against Zapatero, Chavez and Uribe warrior dancing at the Latin American summit, etc) but in the end it’s all….. well….. it just all seems so “been there, done that”….

And yeah, I know, who am I to act so blasé when it comes to world affairs, right? I mean, it’s not like things aren’t happening all over. After all, there is a war going on for Pete’s sake! But see that’s my point exactly…. it’s been going on for 6 freaking years and during all this time Presidents have been voted for on both sides of the Atlantic yet still, THERE IS A FREAKING WAR GOING ON!!!

So what is the whole use of following the elections and being interested in the polls and violently arguing political sides and listening to the 8o’clock news religiously and being passionate about it, if all that’s going to happen is today’s Front Page promises will turn into tomorrow’s Page 12 sidelines, while the important questions remain unanswered?

(dissapointed) Fned.

I hear ya, you know, following celebrity gossip is SO much more rewarding! LOL!

I check the BBC headlines every morning and sometimes I just look at the headlines and decide it's time to go over to wwtdd.com!

Dear Disappointed:

Do not fear. I hate politics. They scream the color "grey" to me. Nothing less, nothing more.

And in end as you say, nothing is really done about the real problems anyways.

So the point of paying attention is really to just gossip and as mexpat says, we can do that with Britney and Lindsay.

Love From,
The Fresa

It's really hard for me to get into politics too. I hate it that I'm so apathetic . . and I fight that too cause I really do care.

Hey, Fned, thanks for posting about the hanger on your back. That was hysterical. I could totally relate.

Also, I don't know why I fell compelled to tell you this but at first when I saw your postings I thought you were a guy. I guess when I saw fned I thought "Fred" or "Ned." Sorry to have mistaken it.

Mexpat: hahaha! Me too! I check El Mundo sometimes only to read the headlines and then go over to the "gente" slideshow. ;)

Dear Ms Fresa: Don't forget about Brangelina! ;)

Ritamae: haha! You must have thought I was a real "weird" guy when I posted about taking pictures of my shoes and pasting them to their shoeboxes!!! LOL :D

I've been meaning to comment on this entry: don't give up fned! You know you can't just turn your back on what's happening around you... taking a breather is fine and that's what you're doing, but sooner or later you know you'll be back in the fight for a better world! We're all in it together and we each have to acknowledge, come to terms with, accept, and ACT on our own capacities to make it happen! I know you know that and I know your conscience won't allow you to just blow it off! Can't wait to read your next surely soon-to-come blog in the future opening our minds with your uniquely fned political/social/environmental/global/awareness!
