A collection of sensations

Welcome to a little compilation of the flavors, views, and sensations explosion that is the Old City in Jerusalem:

Walking in this age old city, going from the Jewish quarters to the Armenian, from the Catholic to the Muslim's... each turn of a corner takes you back centuries in time...

Enjoying the luscious evening sun setting over the city, radiating the Mount of Olives with golden light

Jerusalem, Holliest of Holly Cities

A day trip across the Judea dessert, all the way up to the Massada, and down to the Dead Sea

A dose of reality to make sure we're still in 2009

Jerusalem literally twinkles at night

amazing. i love the last one.

in one picture i had a hard time telling if there were a million cream colored little houses, or if it was a cemetary or what. there were so many my eyes couldn't decide on the scale!

Your hubby is a seriously good photographer.

I find it kind of hard to think of normal, everyday life going on in a place like Jerusalem. Everything is so historical, both in how it looks and the events that took place there, that it's weird to think of living there and going to work in a modern office and eating pizza. I had a bit of the same feeling in Athens, with people going about their normal lives with modern buildings mixed in next to ancient monuments, but in these photos it looks like Jerusalem the feeling would be even stronger in Jerusalem.

You're right - the city does twinkle at night! Good description! Massada looks very impressive, serious... and the cemetery too, with its incredible austerity! But the inside of that marketplace reminded of the ones here, you know? Oh, and I gotta say I liked that blue veil flowing out from under A's hat! Perfect! Finally, don't worry, the photos from your hub are labeled... guess it's automatic.
P.S. btw, holly will never be holy. (sorry, it's the English teacher in me...)

Great pictures. I absolutely love the one of you sitting on the steps. With your clothes and perfectly done veil you could have been born there. Hubby's looks nice too!

(His veil that is. You guys must have been dying from the heat.)

Lydia: Thanks girl! That's actually a cemetery... the oldest cemetery in activity in the world, btw! It's on the Mount of Olives and Jews believe that's from where the Messiah will come so the first to be resuscitated will be those buried in that cemetery. It's impressive!

Emily: I know exactly what you mean! Specially because "normal" life in Jerusalem seems like playing a part inside a History book. Still, all the office buildings and McDonald's and 5 star hotels are outside the Old City so the "ambiance" captured in these pics is pretty preserved from that. However, even when you leave the Old City and wander in the "normal" more modern part of town you can't help not be reminded that history is in the making in this city. Walking past buildings that still show bullet holes from the '48 and '67 wars or crossing the "green line" from Jerusalem East to West definitely reminds you that normal every day life here must be everything "but" normal.

Minshap: Funny, I didn't think the markets reminded me that much of Mexico. However, at one point we passed a school marching band in a parade inside the Old City and the kids were playing the same banda de guerra songs all the elementary schools in Mexico teach their students!! It was so weird!

Jonnifer: I thought Hubby looked cute in that veil too! It was so hot up on the Massada and Hubby's neck tends to get seriously sun burned (as can be seen in the picture of him floating in the Dead Sea) so that's why I told him to "put on the veil"... LOL

Cancun Canuck: Thank you so much Canucka, I'll tell him you told him that! It'll make his day =)
