Sure, all my siblings had it cool, getting their lucky years when they were 3 or 9 or 14.... while I gritted my teeth and watched on the sideline and waited for mine ... and waited and waited and WAITED!
And finally here it is : MY lucky year begins today! Today my age and my birth-date are exactly the same number!!!!!!!!!! Whoupeeee!!!
******
Yeah, well it also means that I can officially begin the CountDown for the Big 3-0. Gulp!
How do you prepare for such a countdown? I guess not everyone feels the need to make such a big deal about turning 30, but being the self-absorbed creature that I am, there's no way there wasn't going to be a) a new ticker on the side bar and b) a challenge to set, work for, stick to, blog (read: complain) about and look back on when I finally make it into my 3rd decade.
So ladies and gents, I hereby officially announce My Challenge for this, my Lucky Year:
*drumroll please*
I am going to train for and run
The 2009 Parisienne Race.
Every year around the first days of September, there is a women's only 12km race that takes place in the streets of Paris called -duh- "La Parisienne". It's quite cool and girly and all the flyers and posters and stuff are Pink (just my kindda thing, huh?) and best of all, some of the proceeds go towards the research for Breast Cancer. The 2008 Parisienne will take place on September 7th. Last year, over 13,000 women ran and this year organizers are hoping/expecting to heavily pass that number.
Now, I've never participated in any competitive event of the sort but even I know I am nowhere near in good enough shape to run the race this year, so I've decided I'm going to train for it and participate next year when I'm *gulp* Thirty. It's way better than other "things to do before you turn 30" stuff like bungee-jumping or climbing Mount Everest and it just seems like such a mature thing someone in their 30's would do, wouldn't you think? ;)
Plus it will ultimately be fun because I plan on blogging about the progress I make while training for it. C'mon, don't tell me you just can't wait for those "Where did I ever get the moronic idea I'd want to do this??!" posts. :D
Yeah. Can't wait.
In the meantime, here's me sitting in the Lotus position waiting for those Lucky vibes to start flowin'!
Cheers,
Fned.
P.S. No mom, this has nothing to do with you thinking I was pregnant after looking at our pictures from Ireland. That was simply a question of "Collateral Damage" after going on holidays :P

Here's your first lucky vibe: HAPPY BIRTHDAY FROM EVERYONE HERE IN THE HOYO! With all of our thoughts and best wishes focused on our invincible Fned, there will surely be tidal waves of luck flowing your way all day! And it should last even longer since our day is 7 (?) hours behind yours! You lucky girl - have the best 29th ever and don't worry about the big 3-0. That year is EVERYONE'S lucky year, no matter what day of the month they were born on!
P.S. I absolutely love your big project - training for the 2009 marathon! So cool - so Fned!! Big birthday hug and just-because-I-love-you hug to you, daughter mine!

Sapo verde a ti! Happy big 2-9 Fned! May your day be filled with luck and love and good food and good wine and all things pink.
Looking forward to reading about your training, you go girl!
(and eventually I do look forward to hearing about the pregnancy thing, hahahaha). :)
Happy Birthday, young'un! You're going to run a marathon?! Holy moley, I would only run a race if there was someone chasing me with a knife. And even then I might stop to rest. Congratulations!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
I love the challenge of a race to work for! Good luck in your training!
You are braver than I. Good luck with your training!
And Otanjobi Omedetou (^_^)v!!!! (In case you didn't learn that, it's happy bday in Japanese).
Feliz Cumpleaños chiquita bonita!
How great of you to take on that challenge. Because really, it's a gift to yourself to get healthy and into shape.
Have a great day...weekend....month! :)
Happy Birthday, I hired some mariachis, they said they'd be there mañana, so you'll just have to pretend that there were handsome guys under your balcony singing Las mañanitas to you this morning.
regards,
Theresa
Happy Happy Birthday to you!! What a great year and a great goal. You go girl!
I didn't know the story about your lucky year being the date of your birth. I don't remember much about my 13th year, I don't think it was all that great but I do remember that my birthday was on a Friday. I loved that.
Wow you guys, I feel like I've been hit with a truck load of Lucky Vibes from all your messages!! So MERCI BEAUCOUP, MUCHISIMAS GRACIAS, ARIGATO GOZAIMAS.... Thanks guys.
I have taken Ale's advice and put off beginning of training until after birthday weekend. Will blog a little later about last night but just wanted to thank y'all and wish you a great weekend!
Fned.
P.S. (just realized I never answered Cancun Canuck's question about "the pregnancy thing"). Basically my mom saw the pics I posted on our trip to Ireland and called me up to ask if I was pregnant!!!! Well, OF COURSE NOT, did she not read all the parts about the GUINNESS being part of our daily routine???!!! Next time I go on holidays I'm sticking to eating lettuce leafs the entire time! Geez!!
