Well…. If you’re anything like my Mexican friends it goes something like this:
Beer, a wide selection of Chips (Sabritones, Chips Verdes, Rancheritos, Cheetos, Ruffles c/Queso, etc), Beer, Beer, Chips, Beer, Beer, Tacos (eventually a take out order from Tacos Tony), Chips, and Beer.
Oh yeah…. And Cuba Libre’s or simply Squirt if you have people over that don’t like beer.
And what do you serve when you have people over for Poker night in France?
Well… first of all folks, it’s not because it’s poker that you don’t serve an entrée followed by a plat, a cheese course and dessert…. Hello? Otherwise, it would be n’importe quoi (utter nonsense)!!!
So what are we talking about here? Well... take last night for example. We served:
Entrée: olives, peanuts, plain chips, cherry tomatoes, hummus on bran crackers (wink at Mexico Way) and margaritas. Other beverages should be offered as well such as sparkling Perrier, fruit juices (at least 2 kinds), beer and wine.
Plat: raw veggies cut and assembled on plates to eat without moderation (carrots, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes w/mozzarella and basil, endives and mushrooms) all with their own appropriate dips and let’s not forget some bruchettas and tartines for those meat-eating poker players. And to top it off, a nice large veggie quiche (cut up in bite-size pieces so as not to disrupt the game with annoying stuff like plates and forks)
Cheese course: A fine selection of Epoise, Chèvre and Basque cheeses, all served with freshly baked baguettes from the boulangerie down the street.
Dessert: Hubby & I are lazy folks, so we severed store bought Hagen Daas mini ice-cream cups (I can hear some of you out there gasp in shock), but a better host would have made a nice Tarte Tatin.
All this served with a nice Pommard 1er Cru – 2002 red Burgundy wine.

Oh yeah… and by the way….. Poker was fun too! =)

Have a marvelous time in Japan. Can't wait to hear all about it!!
I wanna play poker at your place next time! YUMMMMMMMY!!!
Wow! I don't know how to play poker, but I do know how to eat (and can totally appreciate a nice glass of wine, or three)... Can I come over for the next game! I promise I'll just stay in the kitchen... lol!
I think I like the poker food in France better! Plus um....look at all the cheese....and of course....the hummus!
But really it looks much healthier in France!
Wow I think I prefer your French poker night too. That all looked delicious!
Btw very jealous of the japan trip! You'll have fun.
Aunt S: It sure does. Credit goes to André. I washed and peeled the veggies though!! ;)
Minshap: Uhm... watchawaitingfortocommonover???
Mexpat: That makes two of us. The only card-games I used to play up until a year ago was "Go Fish" and "Gyn". Lucky for me we never play for $$ ;)
Mexico Way: It is healthier I guess... but sometimes I can't say I don't miss a good bowl of Rancheritos with Salsa Valentina. *sigh*
Misschris: I know, I am sooo excited too! Can't wait! ;D
